What is the European Week of Sport?

The European Week of Sport (#BeActive) is an initiative of the European Commission launched in 2015 with the aim of promoting sport and physical activity across Europe. Every year, from 23 to 30 September, millions of people take part in events that celebrate the joy of movement and active life.

The Ministry of Sport and Youth, as the National Coordination Body, strives to encourage the public to be active throughout the year, and the goal of the European Week of Sport is to promote physical activity, regardless of age or physical fitness, while educating citizens about healthy lifestyles.

The year of the European Week of Sport

For 10 years now, we've been working together. Join and be part of a common mission for a healthier and more active society!

Our Mission

Together we are stronger - sport connects communities!

We are on a mission to bring together individuals, national sports federations and clubs, recreationists and professionals, civil society organizations, public and private sectors. Through local initiatives, the European Week of Sport will encourage citizens to be active on a regular basis (#BeActive) and provide them with more opportunities to exercise in their daily lives.

Modern technologies allow us to be connected non-stop, which also means that we move less. This year's European Week of Sport is celebrated under the slogan "Move more, scroll less", and we invite you to join us. Every move counts!

Sports in educational institutions

Educational institutions are key partners in promoting active living among young people. The European Week of Sport in Schools and Universities is not just a sporting event, it is an opportunity to learn important life lessons.

Why is it important?
  • The number of children who have weight problems is on the rise

  • Physical activity improves concentration and learning

  • Sport develops team spirit and social skills.

  • Active children become active adults

A more active employee, a more productive company.

Workplaces are ideal for promoting physical activity – we spend a third of the day there. The European Week of Sport encourages companies to invest in the health of their employees through simple, effective programmes.

  • Better working atmosphere

  • Stronger team spirit

  • A positive image of the company

Nature is our biggest gym

Montenegro, with its natural resources, provides unlimited opportunities for outdoor activities. The European Week of Sport celebrates outdoor sport as the most accessible and healthiest way to exercise.

  • Morning exercise in parks

  • Outdoor fitness station

  • Bicycles as a means of transport
